Fazzino Bids Farewell To ‘The Captain’ in Style

Charles Fazzino was on the field prior to the game between the NY Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium on September 10th. No, he wasn’t taking batting practice….instead, he was presenting The Captain, Derek Jeter, with an artwork commemorating his amazing career with the team. “Derek Jeter is a cultural icon,” said Fazzino before the game. “It’s an honor for me to work with the Yankees to present him with a signature-style piece that hopefully he will cherish for years to come. He is a larger-than-life sports hero and I just hope I have done his accomplishments justice.”

Fazzino Featured on YES Network

Fazzino appeared with Jeter during the pregame ceremony which was later broadcast by the YES Network during the ballgame. New York’s own Bruce Beck also visited Fazzino’s studios to see where the artwork was created prior to covering the unveiling on his NBC sportscast.

Derek Jeter has been a favorite subject for the Master of 3D Pop Art for years. Hand-painted baseballs, stadium seat backs, and 3D limited edition prints have highlighted the collection.

Our friend and talented artist Jackie Thomas is proud to have her art works included in the current Susquehanna Art Museum DOSHI Gallery exhibit Art & Barriers.  The DOSHI is currently located in the State Museum of Pennsylvania, 300 North Street, Harrisburg, PA 17120.  The exhibit runs through December 7th and focuses on the the way that contemporary art both affects and reflects societal barriers and social change. Art & Barriers:  Artists have long been at the forefront of social change through revolutionary and at times, subversive means of transcending both physical and hidden boundaries.  Contemporary art often acts as a mirror for barriers within all societies, challenging viewers to confront oppressive social, political, or cultural divisions.  Can art be the catalyst to break down these confines? Most impressive is the way in which technology has been incorporated to enhance the viewer’s experience. QR codes by each piece allow the people to hear an explanation of the work in the artist’s own words and voice. Visit Jackie’s exhibit page http://sqart.org/jackie-thomas/ to see her works and hear her interpretations. Jackie was instrumental in the execution of all of our interactive workshops and art contests in Williamsport, PA in conjunction with the Little League 75th Anniversary Art Project. She worked with all of the fifth grade teachers on their student projects and helped bring them all together for the exhibition earlier this Summer at The Gallery at Penn College. We are eternally grateful for her contributions. Congratulations Jackie! We Love It.

Tooth Story Building

“A Dose of Dental Hyjinx” is the newest in a long line of satirical, entertaining, and whimsical tributes to the dental industry by Charles Fazzino. Fazzino’s first dental piece “Dentasia” was done in the mid-1990′s after a visit by the artist to the dentist. “I did that piece on a whim,” said Fazzino. “It just hit me as a subject that i could have a lot of fun with…and i did. What happened next was amazing to me. The piece sold out very quickly and collectors started demanding more and more dental artwork. I created my own little niche there.”

Since then, Charles Fazzino has released dozens of limited editions and original paintings about dentistry. He’s combined the Disney characters with dentistry in pieces such as “Visiting the Disney Dentist” and “Disney Dental School.” “Never Long in the Tooth,” “Tooth Story Building,” and “Mouth Under Construction” were highly sought after and sold out in a matter of months after their release dates. “A Dose of Dental Hyjinx” can be purchased at your favorite authorized Fazzino gallery.

“City by the Bay,” “That San Francisco Treat” and “Our Day in San Francisco” have been added to the collection since  then, as have some incredibly vibrant original works. Cool Stuff: Sébastien Del Grosso Mixes Photography and Illustration

We recently came across a Mashable post featuring the work of Frenchman Sébastien Del Grosso.  Charles Fazzino often talks about the necessity for an artist to do something different…establish a niche….distinguish himself from all of the other talented artists out there.  Sébastien Del Grosso has certainly created a new niche and his work is amazing. He crosses illustration with photography to create some of the coolest and most unusual portraits we’ve ever seen. We commend him on his originality. His work is a like a breath of fresh air: beautifully simple and strikingly unique with crisp lines and a truly unique style.

Fazzino’s Newest London 3D Pop Art

Getting Cheeky in the Queue in West End London was actually inspired by Charles Fazzino’s trip to London for the 2012 Olympic Games. “That was my first extended trip to London and I had the opportunity to travel all over the city,” said Fazzino. “It was an incredible experience. One of my favorite things was seeing the show Jersey Boys in the West End. I couldn’t believe I had to go all the way to London to see it. It’s now one of my favorites and I remember coming out and looking around and thinking ‘my next London piece has to be about London’s West End.”

Getting Cheeky on the Queue in Londons West End LR

Fazzino has painted London countless times, the most recent being in the form of a Limited Edition for the 2012 Olympic Games. It was his seventh Olympic Games for the United States Olympic Committee and probably his most compelling to date. NBC created a set of three-layered collectible pins based on the artwork and Fazzino made several appearances in London at the USA House, the American School in London, and the Proctor & Gamble Family Home.

In 2010, Fazzino released an edition called “Touch Down in London Town.” The original composition had portraits of Princes Harry and William. A revision was made when William married Kate and the two of them featured prominently in the piece after that for those who wanted that adjustment.

Charles Fazzino has, of course, also painted many original pieces with London as the theme, the most noteworthy of which might be his portrait of the Queen:

Getting Cheeky on the Queue in Londons West End LR

Getting Cheeky in the Queue in West End London was conceptualized by Charles Fazzino when he was in London for the Olympic Games in 2012. “I was in London for ten days, making appearances at the USA House, the American School in London, and the Procter & Gamble Family Home. I took an afternoon off to play tourist and found myself in the audience at ‘Jersey Boys” in the West End. I loved it so much and the atmosphere in that area of London reminded me so much of Broadway, that I just had to make it my next London release. I hope you enjoy it.”

Charles Fazzino’s first limited edition release about London was actually just called “London” and it was a lithograph released in 1991. Since then he has created dozens of limited editions and original pop art paintings about the Royal City.

On the heels of the popular and sold out release “Illusions of New York,” Charles Fazzino is releasing a new New York series on aluminum titled “Midnight in Manhattan.”  This time, he’s experimenting with color. The piece will be available in the standard black and white, and full color editions. However, he’s also thrown in a blue monochrome print and a green monochrome print. “I love the way the black and white pieces really shine on the aluminum, so I decided to go one step further,” said Fazzino. “We printed the image out in a whole rainbow of monochromatic colors and the green and blue were the ones I liked the best. So, we’re putting them out there. I think they are very cool and just a touch different while still remaining true to my style of rendering New York City.”

Charles Joins New Rochelle Council of the Art

Charles Fazzino has recently been elected to the Board of the New Rochelle Council of the Arts. The Council, currently celebrating its 40th anniversary, actively promotes and encourages the arts throughout New Rochelle.  Throughout the year, they sponsor cultural events, artistic happenings, and major events such as the annual New Rochelle Arts Fest during which we open up the Fazzino Art Studios for public tours. Most recently, they started a series of “pop up” encounters throughout the city, meant to engage the public in a spontaneous and surprising way. The first  took place at the end of January with another one scheduled “somewhere” towards the end of this month. So stay tuned and keep your eyes open.

NRC Gratitude Art Exhibit at City Hall

Also going on right now, is the NRCA Gratitude Art Exhibit in the Rotunda Gallery at City Hall. Stop by and take a look if you’re in the area. The exhibition features the works of twelve local artists and is open until March 19th. “I attended the opening reception for Gratitude,” said Charles Fazzino “I was impressed by the level of talent and the creativity. We have such a rich arts culture here in New Rochelle and I applaud the council’s efforts to spread the word and encourage all of us to be inspired by the talent that surrounds us.”

In March, NRCA is sponsoring a Members Exhibit in honor of Thea Eichler, one of the founding members of the Council. The work on display will be exceptional and reminiscent of the organization’s 40-year history. It will be housed in the Winter Lumen Gallery at the New Rochelle Public Library from March 1st to March 30th.

Charles Fazzino’s work will be featured in the upcoming Art of Pop & Comics Exhibition at the Coral Springs Museum of Art. Guest Curator Lenore Stern Morris has put together an engaging collection of originals and limited editions that will delight any pop culture or comic book lover. Fazzino contributed eight pieces to the exhibit, four of which are ambitious new original works that he will debut at the museum. “I’m so proud to be a part of this exhibition,” said Fazzino. “One of the purposes that art serves is to reflect our own lives back to us….almost like a psychedelic mirror. When I paint pop culture and comic themes, it’s with the goal of taking these elements and creating something new out of them, while still being true to their own essence. We, as a culture, love our cartoons. And I enjoy bringing the cartoons that people love into my own artistic world. This was a fun exhibit to put together.”

Fazzino’s featured originals include: “A Simpson’s Selfie,” “Felix the Cat in Outer Space,” and “A Cartoon Celebration of the Masters.” The exhibit runs from March 5th through May 23rd and features an artist reception and opening on March 5th. The Museum is located at 2855 Coral Springs Rd. in Coral Springs, Florida. Telephone is 954-340-5000. The reception is open to the public for a $10 donation.
